Okay so I keep seeing things about AkuRoku and so I’mmma now give my opinion okay?

Okay.

So I’m usually all “ship who ya wanna ship” because I’m not going to sit and bash other people’s ships when mine are just as un-canon as yours are. There are implied relations but nothing is actually set in stone, which makes Kingdom Hearts a giant shipping party. But that’s a different topic all together. But anyway - this is one ship I cannot sail in more than a friendship way. (Let me clarify that does not mean I will bash it.)

Axel, feeling ignored and neglected by his former best friend is sent to mentor the newest member of Organization XIII - Roxas. He and Saix needed someone they could easily manipulate and take advantage of. But Roxas starts to gain more of a consciousness and they lose control. In the process, Axel and Roxas develop a friendship (though I can’t go into too much details about that because spoilers) and in this friendship, Axel becomes very protective of him - and Xion as well, to the point where Saix has to try and make him choose which “friendship” he’d rather keep. 

As the game progresses, he loses Xion’s trust, and ultimately Roxas’ as well. Feeling his perfect fictional world starting to fall apart, he does whatever he can to get it back. He states to Xion “Just keep running! I’ll always be there to bring you back!” and they have their fight and everything, and then at the beginning of KHII Axel goes and tries multiple times to bring back Roxas to the Organization, as he is ordered to either bring him back, and that order is slowly changed to bring him back, kill him, or be killed yourself for failing. Fearing for his life, he does whatever he can. 

He spends KHII from then on trying to get his best friend back until he dies protecting Sora where he states “I wanted to see Roxas, he made me feel like I had a heart.” — which meant their friendship was strong enough to make him feel like he was feeling again; considering the fact at the beginning of Days he refused to believe he could feel at all.

He’s already lost Saix/Isa, and Xion. He didn’t want to lose the only person he had left because simply put: Axel is a child in most respects. Clinging to realities that’ll never become true and trying to keep from facing his true reality. 

As for Roxas, poor little Roxas. He is used and abused all throughout Days and the first bit of KHII. He never had a chance, constantly being lied to and fed fake beliefs. This results him in trusting mainly Axel and Xion, constantly questioning and trying to figure out his purpose. Then those friendships are betrayed and Roxas leaves the Organization (In which time Axel tries to stop him for both their sakes: Axel doesn’t want him to die and doesn’t want to lose Roxas) only to get into a fight with Riku and then gets used by Ansem the Wise and then thrown into another fake life until Sora’s ready for him and then he gets forced into rejoining with him. So this poor character has been used all throughout his existence.

Not to mention he has no memories. He has the emotional stimulus of a child. He relies on what he’s told and has to believe it to be true. He doesn’t understand emotions, let alone love. So having any sort of sexual relationship would just be creepy. In my eyes Axel has a protective older brother type relationship with Roxas. So for them to even try doing something sexual is just —.

Not to mention that Axel is ten years older than Roxas. I don’t care if these characters are not real. Pedophilia is a big issue, fictional or otherwise. I know some of y’all have your Roxases being older than that and that’s all good but in the game there is a ten year difference and with Roxas and his mental state it’s more like a twenty year difference. 

This game is about friendships.

Not about relationships. 

So why does everyone make ships sexual?
